Dreaming of Purl

I recently placed my first order from Purlsoho.com.  For a few months, I've been putting fabric in my virtual shopping cart, taking it out, putting it back in.  Deliberating and dreaming about all the yummy fabrics they carry.  When I was a grad student at Sarah Lawrence a few years ago, I visited Purl, when it was only a yarn shop.  They've since added fabric, a few doors down, at Purl Patchwork.  At the yarn shop, I was dizzy with all that beautiful yarn stacked to the ceiling.  I wished that I had knitting skills to make something beyond simple scarves for Christmas presents.  I stayed awhile in the shop, touching the skeins of alpaca, wool, cotton.  Getting this in the mail was almost (but not quite) as good as that visit:

Both to be whipped up into pairs of Oliver + S Bedtime Story pajamas -- one to keep and one to gift.  I started on the pajamas to gift this weekend.  Here's a picture of the pants, in progress:

Back to dreaming of Purl.  In two weeks I'll be in New Jersey for the wedding of my dear friend, Chloe (check out her awesome wedding blog here).  The post-wedding brunch for the bridal party is Sunday morning in Soho.  The restaurant just happens to be a few blocks away from Purl (as well as my favorite bookstore in the world: Housing Works).  And, as luck would have it, I've got a few hours to spend in the city before my plane departs.  I've had several vivid dreams about visiting Purl, pouring over all that fabric, armed with some birthday money.  I've heard that it's the best fabric shop around.  I can't wait!  In the meantime, I'll keep surfing their website, adding to the list of fabrics I love.
